PLAYOFF PUB PLANS

The city is gearing up for another long playoff run. Brace yourself, WestEnders: starting this Wednesday with Game 1 Round 1, your neighbourhood is about to get a whole lot busier.

For all you hockey fans out there looking for the best spot with optimal TV placement, good crowds and flowing bevvies, we have you covered. Here is our rundown of best pubs in the West End to anticipate every goal, save and game 7 of the playoff drive.

Red Card Sports Bar and Eatery

900 Seymour Street

Great daily specials, thin-crust pizza, and some craft beers on the menu (for those of you looking for something a bit more palatable than Budweiser on tap) are just a few of the reasons Red Card makes our list. No matter where you sit, you’ll be able to see the game from your table. Cheer for the blue and green, but Red gets our vote for one of the best pubs in the neighbourhood to playoff watch.

1239 Davie Street

Size does matter at the Speakeasy. This Davie St. pub flaunts it’s TV prowess with a 150”-HD screen, a 106”-HD screen, and a 96-HD screen surrounded by 12 more HD TVs in the establishment. If you aren’t interested in hockey, this is NOT the place for you for the month of April and May!

990 Smithe Street

The second establishment launched by Top Chef Canada’s Dale McKay, Ensemble Tap, although just about to go through its first playoff pub push, is looking in great shape to host the hockey hungry crowds. The bar is lined with 15 silver taps pouring some local and US favourites. Those bad at decision-making can try one of the many beer flights. Huge ceilings and strategically placed TVs probably mean a lot of line-ups outside Ensemble Tap this playoff season.

1055 Canada Place

Great location at the base of the Convention Centre and easy walking distance for the downtown corporate crowd, Mahoney and Sons offers a slightly more civilized hockey-watching experience. You can take a break from nachos and get yourself a proper meal while not compromising key TV placement.

1262 Davie Street

With a name like The Score you know it had to make our playoff pub list. It’s a smaller establishment, so go early if you want a seat here. One of the favourite activities at the bar is the tic-tac-toe on Canucks game nights. You get to choose nine players, one for each square. If the player gets a goal, assist or fight, you can “X” him out. If you cross out all nine of them, you win a free beer.
