Some people want to know their neighbours. They like knowing the guy next door will water the plants while they’re on vacation, and they like knowing who’s home on a Sunday morning if they need to borrow a cup of sugar. It’s called community. And that’s where PaPa, the newly imagined Pacific Palisades residence in Vancouver’s West End comes in. Back in the 70s and 80s, this was a “Melrose Place” of sorts for Hollywood A-listers like Johnny Depp, Sharon Stone, Tom Selleck and Martin Sheen. They wanted a home-away-from-home to share with other like-minded people. After that, the apartment complex was turned into an artsy hotel. Now, 40-plus years later, PaPa is going back to its roots. A stellar team of local architects, interior designers and builders, led by the vision of Austeville Properties, is transforming the two towers at Robson and Jervis back into a residence. PaPa debuts in spring 2012. It will be a thing of beauty. The vibe: West Coast Modern. The 234 rental suites plus common areas promise to be a living place for urban professionals and creatives who crave beauty, high-end sustainable design, the latest in technology, simplicity—and a sense of community.
